The State Universities Retirement System of Illinois (SURS) is one of the five state-funded retirement plans that provide retirement, survivor, death and disability benefits on behalf of approximately 245,000 members from 61 employers in Illinois, including state universities, community colleges and state agencies. As of June 30, 2022, SURS defined benefit plan was valued at approximately $22.6 billion while SURS RSP and DCP defined contribution plans were valued at approximately $3.5 billion and $8.5 million, respectively.
The Analyst assists other Investment staff in the selection, evaluation and ongoing monitoring of external private real assets managers. Developing the knowledge and skill necessary for investment decision making and manager selection. This position supports the Senior Investment Officer for real assets.
Position: Investment Analyst-Real Assests
Position Type: Full-Time
- Main Duties
Assist in the ongoing monitoring and evaluation of investment managers by conducting annual onsite/virtual due diligence and maintaining open dialogue with managers to ensure all relevant information and changes are brought to the attention of the Senior Investment Officer in a timely manner. Read prospective fund submission materials and load the data into the pipeline report. - Assist with the selection, evaluation, and monitoring of assigned real asset managers by collecting information, creating metrics, attending meetings as needed.
- Complete special projects and reports as assigned during the year by conducting appropriate research, preparation of results, follow-up, etc., while working closely with investment staff.
- Assist with the administrative responsibilities in the investment department including quarterly/annual reports and legislative filings
Continually develop an understanding/knowledge of investments through continued education including annual meetings/conferences, webinars, publications, and research from consultants and others on an ongoing basis.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business or closely related field
- One year of applicable experience or successful completion of six months as an Intern/Junior Investment Analyst
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills
- Good oral and written communication/presentation skills
- Strong computer skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion, progress towards completion or willingness to pursue CFA or CAIA designation
Location
- This is a hybrid position, a combination of remote work days and in office work days, based in Champaign, IL.
