Rock The Street, Wall Street is a financial and investment literacy program designed to bring both gender and racial equity to the financial markets and spark the interest of high school girls into careers of finance.

 IMPACT STORIES

HERE’S THE PROBLEM

In the U.S. and Western Europe, we start to lose girls in math at age nine. We don’t have this problem in Russia, China nor Eastern European countries. This is a cultural issue, not a capability issue.

Progress will come as a result of an extensive scale of individuals doing their part to change the trajectory of girls in math in their own environments – be that in schools, companies or homes.

RTSWS gets girls re-engaged with the M in STEM, math, at a critical age, when they are on the verge of becoming financially independent; choosing whether or not to go to college; what college they will choose and which majors/minors they will study.

WAGE & WEALTH GAP

Wage Gap: Compared to white men, women make:
• White: 79 cents
• Black: 63 cents
• Latina: 54 cents

Wealth Gap: Women have only 32 cents for every
dollar owned by a man and in these terms “wealth” is
practically nonexistent for black and Latina women,
who own a penny for every male dollar.

The number one reason why girls are not choosing STEM professions? They don’t see women in those professions.

The number two reason? They don’t see girls in their class nor their friend groups choosing STEM studies. IT’S THAT SIMPLE. RTSWS changes this in every classroom we’re in.

STEM professions lift people out of poverty in one generation.

TESTIMONIALS

WE HAVE A SOLUTION

OUR INSTRUCTORS ARE 100% FEMALE FINANCIAL PROFESSIONALS

To close the gender gap in wages, wealth accumulation and in financial professions, we have to inspire girls to pursue the M in STEM, by exposing them to real life, positive money management role models. RTSWS sparks girls’ interest at a critical juncture in their lives, pre-college planning, and expands their perceptions of what a person who works in finance looks like beyond the traditional stereotypes. Since launching in 2012, more than 6,000 girls have graduated from the year-long program.

Change who we invest in to change what we invest in.

OUR OUTCOMES

Served more than 6,000 female high school students in the US, UK
and Canada.

On average, our alumnae have shown a 71% INCREASE in financial and investment literacy.

RTSWS alumnae are pursuing finance, economics and related degrees at 5X’s the rate of an average female university student.

OUR STUDENT DEMOGRAPHICS

%

73% of our students are
from BIPOC populations.

%

49.96% of our students are
from low-income households.

ADDITIONAL CHALLENGES WE FACE

All royalty proceeds from Undiversified will be donated to Rock The Street Wall Street (RTSWS)a 501(c)(3) charity.

In Undiversified, experienced practitioners Ellen Carr and Katrina Dudley. CFA (a RTSWS volunteer in Short Hills, NJ), examine the lack of women in investment management and propose solutions to improve the imbalance. They explore the barriers that subtly but effectively discourage women from entering and staying in the industry at each point in the pipeline.

ACADEMIC YEAR-LONG PROGRAM
PROJECT-BASED LEARNING (PBL)

Girls enroll for a full academic year.

RTSWS mentors offer college and career path guidance to our students. We are effectively changing the student to guidance counselor ratio from a national average of 482:1 to 2:1. This has a multiplier effect on the career and lifetime trajectories of our students, especially those from underserved schools. Our female volunteers provide social capital to students who otherwise would not be connected to pros in the financial field. Student cohorts are being built among the girls and industry connections are eliminating the barriers to women entering M in STEM professions.

There are four programs to our academic year-long model including financial
project-based learning.

Alumnae and Beyond: RTSWS Internship and Job Portal

RTSWS Alumnae and Career Center

Our fourth and newest program to our model is the RTSWS Alumnae and Career Center. It’s the place to make peer to peer student/alumnae connections, foster professional development and browse current internship or job listings.

Our students focus on their interest in financial careers for one simple reason – because they are aware of them. The Alumnae and Career Center provides our students the opportunity to intern and obtain entry-level, high-paying STEM jobs offered by over 70 of our corporate partners. Not only is RTSWS providing the knowledge and skills to unlock girls’ investor identities, we open the gateway to a rewarding career in finance.

Employers, sponsors and organizations can also access the Alumnae and Career Center to share upcoming events for students, recruiting sessions, and post internships and entry-level jobs.
